Part 3: The Burger Bash

At the beginning of every semester, UL Chi Alpha kicks off with a huge event called the Burger Bash. Hundreds of students flood the Chi Alpha building to eat free burgers, play games, and get to know one another. For a student leader or intern with Chi Alpha, the event was the premier time to meet people and invite them to your life group bible study.

Burger bash, but years after I was at UL.

I spent most of the time small talking and trying to make a few connections. I tried, I mean I really tried, to do things by the book. But then a sudden urge came over me. I couldn’t just talk to people – I had to make a joke.

I looked at my plate. On it sat a burger and a few potato chips.

I put down the plate, picked up a chip, and placed it on my shoulder.

I then went around the building waiting for people to ask me why I had a chip on my shoulder.

If you ask Molly about this, she swears it is the first memory she has of me.

Miracles really do happen.

Here I am volunteering to wash the dishes after the Burger Bash. Apparently, the ladies dig a guy wearing yellow gloves.
