🎄 The Clothing 🎄
As a family, it’s only a small exaggeration to say that we own more Christmas clothing than regular clothing. Some of us are dangerously close—if not already there—to having more Christmas shirts than there are days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is not a problem. This is a system.
My personal favorites tend to involve cats dressed as Santa, yetis who look ready to party, or pretty much anything with a Christmas tree on it. I’ve also built up a respectable collection of Hawaiian-style shirts with Christmas themes, because nothing says “holiday cheer” like tropical vibes and questionable fashion choices.
Every year when we head out to pick our Christmas tree, it’s tradition that the boys get brand-new Christmas shirts for the adventure. New tree. New memories. New shirts.
Pro tip: some of the absolute best Christmas shirts can be found at your local thrift store. You just have to be willing to dig… and embrace the chaos.
Important seasonal question: Are you Team Sweater or Team T-Shirt? (I proudly play both sides.)
One year, I complimented my brother-in-law on his “Ugly Christmas sweater.” My wife later informed me that it was not a Christmas sweater—and very much not intended to be ugly. I stand by my compliment.
Another year, I apparently “won” Best Christmas Outfit at work while wearing one of my sweaters. There was no prize. I didn’t even know there was a competition. I honestly just thought it was Tuesday.
Some of my favorite shirts quote classic Christmas movies, including:
- “Dad, you taught everything I know about exterior illumination.”
- “Where are you going to put a tree that big?”
- “Where’s the Tylenol?”
And just recently, Molly gifted me a pair of Christmas shoes, which will go perfectly with my Christmas jacket, pants, and tie. At this point, I’m basically committed.
So tell me—what team are you on: sweater or t-shirt? And what’s the best Christmas clothing item you own?
